Get rid of my dog??

So today my daughter who is 7 months was petting the dog and she pulled her hair. She is longhaired. So then my dog scratched her face. It’s not bad. But should I get rid of he dog. I love her. But have been having problems with her ever since the baby arrived. She would like growl at her and everytime she get to close bark at her. Idk what to do.

try to teach  your daughter  not to do things with will hur the dog i know she young but if you watch her and the dog you can easily stop it i know its not the child  or the dog fault but i would try to control it and to teach the dog not to do anything  to the baby but of you tried everything  that you can think of to stop this then yes i would rehome the dog i would ask your friends or family  if they would take the dog that why you can still see him/her

I would try and bring in a trainer first before immediately removing the dog from your home. But also it’s great learning for your daughter as well to be gentle. Not that your daughter needed to be hurt of course. But if gives you the opportunity because there are tons of houses with dogs and all dogs are different. Some dogs will let you sit on them and some dogs won’t let you touch them.

Well, if you pull a dogs hair or do something to aggravate it, it’s natural instinct is to fight back and defend itself. Though your daughter most likely meant no harm and isn’t aggressive, I think its best you teach both of them to play nice. However if this continues, rather its your dogs fault or your daughters, then unfortunately you may have to give up the dog to either a shelter or another family/friend.

I know some people view dogs as their “babies” but my opinion is “dogs are dogs, that’s it” I would start looking into rehoming immediately after the first sign of aggression. There is absolutely no way I would jeopardize my child’s safety because of a jealous/ temperamental dog.

This won't be a popular opinion but I would rehome the dog at the first sign of aggression towards a child.  There are many ways to find great homes and if done the right way, can be best for all involved.  You can try to hire a trainer, talk to the veterinarian or even separate your dog and child but that's up to you.  I foster many, many dogs from our local animal shelter.  There are some dogs who simply can't handle the chaos of kids.  I'm far from an expert but I know enough not to second guess a dog who's growling at a child.  I'm sorry you have to make this choice.  I know it's hard and pulls at your heart.

this is gonna get backlash but from the view point of a future vet tech, the dog felt as though it had to defend itself and a scratch is pretty mild compared to a bite. If it was my child(TTC as of now), I would try to separate them or if the child is old enough, try to teach them that animals feel things too. And pets are family.

No, teach your daughter how to play nicely with the dog. She pulled his hair and hurt him so that was a perfectly normal and understandable reaction.  It's self defense.  There's no need to get rid of your dog just don't let her pull the dog's hair,  tails ears etc or be too rough.  Children grow up with animals all the time!

Training first, then if that doesn’t work, you can tho know rehoming but you made a commitment to the animal too and I personally wouldn’t give up on the animal that quickly without attempting some interventions first. Also, training your child can start now- with the idea of gentle hands and not bothering the animal when it clearly wants to be somewhere else. Good luck
