Ive asked my boyfriend to quit since we started dating (october). He claims he's working on it and has cut down some, but i fear he's lying and just saying that to shut me up.

Tbh, it’s his choice...he’s going to do it whether you like it or not, so if you don’t like it then move on, simple. I know you’re trying to look out for his health and stuff and you love him but it’s not your choice to make no matter how much you don’t like it.

If you have a hard time with him smoking, why did you date him in the first place? Seems incredibly unfair to say it’s okay for x amount of time just to turn around and tell him to change now 🤷🏼‍♀️

Maybe don’t try to control the habits of the people you’re dating. You should be careful about tendencies to want to ‘change’ people. It is controlling and potentially toxic behavior. Even if you want this for his health, he is an adult and should be respected in his ability to make his own choices. If you can’t date a smoker, I’d say date someone else.
