How to get my first car?

Question

So me and my bf have talked about getting a car together for a while. But we don’t exactly know how to financially do it, we both have jobs. We dont care what car it is as long as it’s in good condition. So my question is, how do we save up enough money to buy one? Has anyone else been in this situation? How did you get your first car?
P.S: im not one of those girls that asks for money or cars from my parents, I’d rather work hard for what i want.

I am married and been with my husband for 9 years. I’m sorry this may seem rude but to be honest i would buy your car by yourself. And it will make you feel better. Both of my cars are in my name only. We bought a car together and i hated it i had it switched to my name only.

Once you figure out your bills you can do it. I would also look into a lot of first time buyers programs they are amazing. Most big dealerships have them. A used car isn’t always bad and always buy the extended warranty. New or used. And make sure you get gap insurance. It’s normally like an extra 200-300$ but will make sure you will get another car if anything happens to it. I wish i would have listened to everyone when i bought my first car it was totaled and i had to come out of pocket 3200$ plus still buy a new car. 
Know your credit score. If you bank with a credit union they are the best to finance a car thru. 
And normally take 500-1000 to put down. The fastest way to save that is get a piggy bank and superglue the stopper in. Only pay for things in cash. With what ever you have that’s not a 20$ bill put in the piggy banks as well as 20$bill every week.

Calendars!!!! I’m 19 and was able to get a car just fine, just keep a close eye on those bills/any monthly subscriptions you may have and the days they go through and decide how much you’re willing to put away each check. 
Opening a second checking account helped me tons along with making sure what bills clear on what day, etc. 
I did sell my previous car to use that money as a down payment (risky, but it worked for me and was more than what the dealership would have taken it for!)

figure out your bills and what you have left after you pay all your bills and then from there figure out how much you can set aside without making yourself completely broke
