My sweet baby girl made me a mommy only hours after her due date on 4/8/18 at 1:42 am. I’m not sure how many people actually read these but I always loved reading birth stories and figured I’d post mine since I’m exhausted but still can’t even sleep 🤦🏼‍♀️. Sorry it’s a long one! On friday 4/6, the night before my due date I was having super bad cramps and back pain to where I almost couldn’t stand it. It only lasted a few hours and I had an appt the next morning so I decided to just forget about it and hopefully schedule my induction in the morning. Jokes on me cause I started having contractions, especially in my back all night that woke me up and decided to take a bath to wait it out but it just got worse. We finally were able to make it to my appt and I was in so much pain getting there that they put me on the monitors right away. When my doctor came in he checked me and I was 3 cm (after being 0 on Thursday) and said alright you’re going to the hospital! We get to the hospital and they put me in a labor room and hooked me up to monitors and an IV around 9:30. By 11:30ish my contractions were so bad I started to cry and its like they knew because in cane the epidural (I was so terrified but it was worth it I had back labor so bad). I was progressing well but got a fever so I had to be hooked up to antibiotics but no big deal. They thought I would have her on her due date but I stalled at 4 cm for a few hours so they gave me pitocin and inserted an internal contract action catheter to measure the strength of my contractions. After I was about at 9 cm the left side of my epidural in my back stopped working and it was *almost the worst pain I’ve ever felt. It took awhile but finally I was at a 10 and they tried to have me labor her down for a bit and then start pushing. I started pushing around 11:00 pm and we were doing alright until my epidural stopped working and I felt every contractions and pushing hurt so bad in my butt (tmi- it felt like that’s how she was trying to make her exit) they tried to get it to start working again and just couldn’t so I’m not sure what the gave me but they had to come in every 20 mins to fill it and it made me fall asleep in between pushes but I didn’t feel anything finally. When my doctor finally got there, I guess she was in the birth canal for too long because they started to have me push longer and I saw the nurses getting worried. My doctor didn’t show a single sign he was worried thank god. He gave me an episiotomy without me even knowing and finally they hit the button and like 30 nurses rushed in, they were yelling at me to push while pushing for me and my doctor reaches in and pulled her out! I knew something was wrong because they didn’t put her on me just had my husband cut the cord really quick and took her away and I didn’t hear a peep from her, I was so terrified and nobody knew what was wrong. From being in the canal too long she wouldn’t respond but finally I heard the tiniest cry in the world when they got her awake and I finally had her placed on my chest and everything that had happened in the last 3 hours didn’t even matter cause my baby was finally here! She obviously gets her dramatics from her momma cause she made quite the entrance! So ladies, if you’re worried about approaching the due date and you have no labor signs, it is possible! I was so discouraged and almost had a due date baby! Good luck to the rest of you April mommas and if you made it this far, thanks for reading 👍🏻 💕
