Spectra vs medela pump pros and cons

For those of you debating on the spectra vs medela breast pump I want to point out some pros and cons to both to help you make the right decision for you. I have personally used both and they worked quite differently for me and the amount of milk it expressed.

Pro for medela:

- comes with carrying case

-comes with extra bottles and attachments

-easy to use

-extra parts both new and used are easier to find with it being such a popular brand

-let down mode on timer so you don’t have to remember to shut it off

Cons for medela:

-Only one suction setting (vacuum)

- noisy

- lots of parts to clean

Pro for spectra2

- quiet

-closed system so less parts to clean and more sanitary

- has a timer

- has a light built in to check settings more easily at night

-two settings (cycle and vacuum)

- can get a different model that is electric (spectra 1)

-let down mode manual on/off so you can adjust to specific time frame

Cons for spectra2

- no carrying case

- less extra parts (bottles and attachments)

I am sure there are more pros and cons for each of these that I am missing. If you have some you would like to share please comment. This post is intended to help new moms make a decision that is best for them- I struggled when I was looking and was fortunate enough to try both. When it came down to it the spectra 2 was hands down better for me and getting my milk to come in.
