Name too close?

So I absolutely ADORE the name Aiden, but my nephew’s name is Jaydn (“Jay-din”) and my sister and SO both think the names are too similar. It hurts because growing up, I always named my future hypothetical son Aiden, even on my Sims games 😂.

Me and my cousin had similar sounding names growing up and loved how they played off of each other. I think they’re kind of being silly not wanting you to name because of a potential rhyming situation. 🤷🏻‍♀️ If you SO doesn’t like the name that’s different, but if you both like it I’d go for it!

Jaydin has jay for a nickname which is what he will probably end up going by during the school years so then the names will be very different

Think of it this way- they aren’t going to be in school together, or any social situations really outside of family events. Your sisters kid is ten years older. They won’t really hang out a bunch just because of the age gap. 
Ps: my name is Aleigha. My younger cousin’s name is Aliyah. 7 years apart, same pronunciations, and no one has ever made a comparison. 😉

Does your partner love the name too? If so, use it! Not too similar.
But you said SO thinks it's too similar so that made me wonder. If both parents don't love it, then keep looking. Even if it's the one you used to dream of. I think both parents loving the name is the most important thing, even if it means you have to compromise on old dreams.

My sister in law and her brother had their children 2 months apart. The brother’s came first and he named his son Kellen and my niece came next and they named her Kelly. They wanted the name Kelly and they weren’t going to change it because it was close to her cousin’s. Choose what you like best. It’s your baby. I want my first girl to be named Lena Rose and I have a niece named Rose. I thought of picking a different name but it has an important meaning in my family, so I won’t change my mind. 
Side note, my mother gets me and my 2 sister in laws confused. Laura, Leyla and Lauren. Weird shit happens with names lol. She also calls her dog my name sometimes 😂🤣 🤷‍♀️
