Trouble trying to conceive!

My boyfriend and I have been trying to conceive our first child together ( I have a five year old son) since August 2013, when I stopped using the Nuva ring. My obgyn says they don't worry until after a year of trying. I have not bought ovulation predictors but have been using a different app on my phone. My boyfriend does not have health insurance right now, hasn't been to a do or in a long time, and has no previous children. Tips, advice, and thoughts are welcome as each month turns into a disappointment! Thanks!
