Anyone with Amniocentesis experience?

I am scheduled for Amniocentesis this coming Thursday and I am scared out of my mind about the miscarriage risk. 😫😬 I would love to hear your experience about Amniocentesis. How you handled it? Did it hurt? Please give me some hopeful stories. Thanks. 😊

I've never had one, but I have worked in an MFM office for 3 years and never seen anyone miscarry after an amino. And we do a lot of them! The risk is much lower than people think. Good luck girl!!

An amniocentesis is so invasive. My Dr suggested Maternal 21 or Harmony. She says these bloodtests are as good as the amniocentesis. So I will be doing either one and if the results indicate anything, I will then opt for the amnio.

The most recent study found that the risk of miscarriage is only about 1 in 1600 or 0.06% with amniocentesis. Older studies actually counted parents choosing to abort based on the results of the test in the number of miscarriages, so the risks were exaggerated.

I wouldn't get one. Whatever the results may be, I'd still carry my baby as long as my body allowed and I'd still deliver my child...so no need to even bother with that test...
