Is asking a woman her age considered rude?

I grew up being told that it's rude to ask a woman her age, and I don't really understand why...

Depends on the circumstances. I consider it to be a more personal question which is why it’s sometimes rude to ask. 
Not rude for someone you’re friends with or at least friendly enough that you talk about semi-personal stuff.
It’s rude to ask someone who you just met or in a business situation.

I don’t think it’s rude. I think some people are just to sensitive 🙄 You don’t hear men complaining if someone asks them how old they are. It’s only women who get cranky about it. It’s weird to me. I couldn’t care less if someone asked me how old I am lol
