Birth story!! Baby born on due date!!

Cierra

Finally the day has come and it’s my turn to share my birth story. On April 15th I felt a little off, but I chalked it up to the fact I’ve gotten maybe 10 hours of sleep in the past few days. Well 6pm rolls around and I notice I’m having pain and by 6:20pm I realize the pain is coming in intervals so I download a contraction counter and start timing. By 7pm I realized they were coming every 2-4 minutes and lasting 30 seconds. So I decide I should make sure the bags are all ready to go!

Fast forward to 8:30pm and the contractions are getting stronger and coming faster. So we load up our bags and arrive at the hospital around 9pm. Once we get there I tell them I think I’m in labor, so of course we do all the paperwork and what not and the nurse hooks me up to all the monitors and agrees I’m having pretty good contractions. Then she does the cervical and I’m 90% effaced and 4cm dilated. She calls the on call Dr. and he says to admit me. So by 10pm I’m nice and cozy in my own room and the contractions are getting more intense. 12:30am rolls around and she checks me again, 6cm and 100% effaced. So we carry on, well 1am I feel a gush and ask my husband to look and he goes to get the nurse, sure enough my water broke. So now the contractions are much more intense! 3:30 rolls around and I’m 9cm and at station 0.

So we are all pretty sure we’re gonna have a baby soon! But now the contractions are insane and I’m starting to regret not getting any type of pain interventions. A miserable and longggg 2 hours later (5:30am) she checks my cervix again. Absolutely no progress! So she calls the Dr. and he orders pitocin and recommends I get an epidural to relax my body and help me get to 10cm. So I agree... and I can tell you getting an epidural at 9cm is tough! But bam I can no longer feel anything and I’m asking myself why I was giving birth naturally in the first place 😂. So now it’s 7am and the night nurse checks my cervix with the day nurse and NO PROGRESS! And not but a few minutes later the Dr. walks in and tells me if I don’t progress by 9am we will be heading in for a C-Section. So for the next two hours I try everything the nurses and midwives tell me to try. 8:45am rolls around and not only am I still at 9cm but my anterior lip of my cervix is swollen... so in walks Dr. and tells me we will go in for my C-Section around 9:15am.

At this point I’m laughing... I labor unmedicated and honestly feel like I did a kick ass job at handling the pain only to get stopped 1cm away from the goal 😂.

Well there we are on the operating table and at 9:46am I hear the most angelic cry I’ve ever heard. My husband then leaves to be with the baby and I’m just hanging out being out back together when I suddenly feel the most God awful pain in the world.. my epidural broke and I’m no longer numb. Everyone starts to scramble and I begin to pass out, but they fixed the issue.

Finally I’m off to recovery and learn that no matter how hard I tried that baby was not gonna come out naturally, she was too big for my pelvis and she was stuck! Nobody could believe how big she was! The doctor expected me to have a 6.5 pound baby 🤔.

So all in all it was a wild ride. But I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Everyone, meet Millicent Irene. 8 lbs 15oz and 20inchs. Also I’m completely unprepared for C-Section recovery and would love any tips.

P.S. I typed that on 32 hours of no sleep and a very doped up body. I didn’t proof read. 😂
