In-laws not interested!

Told my in-laws we were having a baby and they are not interested. My parents and granny are so excited :-) my husband says that this is just the way they are and that they don't even like their own children. I think its very strange they had four children . his mother has refused babysitting unless we pay her! Anyone else find this strange? And has anyone experienced this before?
