Anyone have issues with Motrin?

My son has a “raging” ear infection (thanks doc for that adjective). She suggested giving him Motrin to help ease the pain and he screamed nonstop until we gave him Tylenol. This happened last night and this morning. Once they Tylenol kicked in he was able to relax and fall asleep but I’m just curious if any other kids have had negative response to Motrin?

My daughter does well with either however as a nurse, I see it first hand that some pain meds work differently for different people. I can give the same narcotic to two different people and one will have zero pain and knock out while the other says the med did nothing and their still in the same amount of pain. Just sounds like your baby does better with Tylenol.

If it’s that bad why didn’t they prescribe antibiotics?

I haven’t had any bad experiences with either acetaminophen (Tylenol, tempra) or ibuprofen (Motrin). I alternate them so that he isn’t getting so much Tylenol through his liver - it’s hard to metabolize. And Motrin is an NSAID so the mechanism of action is sometimes more appropriate. Sorry to hear your LO is suffering with an ear infection. That totally sucks. I recommend chiropractic if you think one is coming on.
