I have to use one. My daughter cannot latch without one. It’s unlikely you’ll need one but if you do the hospital will give you some.

It wouldn't hurt to buy a pair just in case you need them and dont have to run out.

I needed them. My nipples are small and a little inverted so baby had a hard time latching at first. Now he can if I forget one when we're out but it's still a struggle. He's a year old now and breast feeds to sleep and sometimes for comfort if he's having a bad day.

I wouldn’t purchase this. They will give it to you in the hospital if necessary. Ask the lactation consultant when you see her.

Most likely not. But if you do the hospital should have some.  You can keep.  They give me like 5 pairs of them.

Similar to other posts, you really only need a shield if you have inverted or flat nipples, or if your nipples are sore or bleeding. The LC gave me one at the hospital since I have one flat nipple, and since my LO has a strong suck and liked to bite (she gave me nipple hickeys lol). The shield, along with Medela Tender Care Hydrogel Pads, saved my nips from becoming a bloody mess. I'm 8 weeks PP and don't need it anymore. I recommend just asking the LC at the hospital; they'll also be able to give you the correct size and show you how to use it.
