My parents were pretty strict, but they balanced it with always being loving and supportive. I think it wound up being to my benefit and helped me to be disciplined and remain on a positive path. The only way I rebelled when I went to college was with my eating and exercise habits! 😖 I discovered that the new card in my pocket paid for fast food. Oops! 🤪

Not necessarily, I know this girl who is 18 and her parents are so strict they won’t even let her out past 6pm ! But she doesn’t rebel, she’s really into her school work, really well behaved and is completely against partying drinking etc. Also their are people in my school who’s parents are so laid back and let them drink, smoke, do drugs and so they do those things. Also it’s not just how the parents are bc mine are in the middle and I still do “rebellious” things bc they’re what I  want to do and it has nothing to do with rebelling or anything to do with my parents

I think too often parents who were wild/partiers themselves and lied to their parents a lot just assume that their teenagers will do the same, even without evidence that they are. If the teens feel like they are being wrongfully accused and treated with suspicion whether they did anything or not, they think “why not do it if I will be accused of being rebellious either way?”

My cousins grew up in a super strict household and they totally lashed out in college and ended up failing out bc of partying too much

It depends on the environment outside of the household. For example, a strict house with a loose community leads the child to think his or her parents are lame and unjustified in their strictness.
