epidural or no epidural??

Question

I always thought, why the F would I not get one but now I'm 23 weeks with baby number 1 and I'm having second thoughts.
The epidural slows labour and I feel like I just want to get it done! I want the easier recovery and I want to go home sooner then later after birth.
but... I'm a wimp and don't know if I can take the pain! 
what are other ppl thoughts on this???

I’ve had six babies without any medication at all. I’m usually a wimp when it comes to ‘normal’ pain but for some reason I can handle all that labor and delivery brings. My Labors have been fast, with the longest being 8 hours start to finish. With my first I had him in the states at a hospital so I had to stay the usual 3 days. The other five were natural water births in the birthing center of my hospital in Germany. I’ve only stayed one night with 3 of the 5, but that’s because I had them at night and the lab wasn’t open to do the testing required to release us. With the other two, I went home 4-6 hours after birth. Recovery was amazingly fast every time! Basically no pain at all and I was up and back to pretty much normal within days. No more than a week for sure

I work at the hospital and have been in on several deliveries. Several of the Ob’s have told me that if you don’t have an epidural, there is a risk of not remembering the delivery. They said your brain tries to block out how much pain your body is experiencing that you can’t remember the fine details... just some food for thought. I know I will be having an epidural for sure! 😊

I think you should do what’s best for you. Everyone has their reasons as to why they want one or don’t. I personally don’t want one. A water birth is ideal to me also needles freak me out. I know people who has given birth and had epidurals say that they later experience back pain. Theres pro’s and con’s to both. And the ladies that are gun ho about epidurals please I don’t want any smoke I’m just giving my opinion.

I went in wanting one from the beginning. My thought was “why go through pain if I don’t have to?”.
Trust me, I was nervous too about the pain. When it was time for me to get it, my contractions were painful that I wanted a break from the pain. 
I didn’t want to see any of the needles or anything. While the anesthesia person was setting up, the nurse tells me to sit up on the bed Indian style. Honestly, that was the worst part. Sitting like that while having a contraction and having to stay completely still distracted me from the epidural. It felt like a pinch. 
15 minutes later, I was painless. :)

Omg some of these women saying you need to get the epidural.........do what you feel is best, but women have been giving birth without any pain meds for THOUSANDS of years. Out bodies are the same as thereswere. Do your research about hypnobirthinng and you will be amazed that many women have easy births! Its painful yes but doesn't have to be traumatic!! It's the fear that can turn a birth experience into a negative one. Do your research.

Epidural. I had a wonderful delivery with it. No pain and was up walking within an hour after giving birth. Best decision ever

I go with the "wait and see" approach. I got it when I was induced and everything went great. This time I'm still going to wait and see. If I don't need it then great, but if I do that's great too.

It’s all about what makes you comfortable. I didn’t want one but I ended giving in due to pitocin and another induction being used (it works kind of like a balloon) and even the midwife who was all about natural birth recommended the epidural. I felt myself push because I stopped pressing the epidural button at 9cm. Do what makes you comfortable 😊 if you are not comfortable with the epidural ask your doctor or midwife about other options for the pain. Most hospitals now have large tubs in the room for pain relief and some use gas to help keep you calm. I also read about how many people are also pulling on something (like their partner or a poll) to get the tension off the lower body to help the contractions be more efficient.

I had an epidural with my first and I was admitted to the unit at 9 ish AM and had my son at 6:30 PM. Average first time birth is 11 hours according to an OB class I took
