Which is worse: Living with friends or strangers as roommates?

My friend and I were having a debate over this and now I'm not entirely sure. I think both have their downsides but honestly, I think I'd prefer strangers over friends because it's easier for me to come down on them when they're doing something that's annoying or not paying rent on time, things like that. Basically, I'd rather get fucked over by a stranger rather than someone I know.

My ex's friends lived with us for a while and I hated it. They were messy, didn't pay their rent, were openly disrespectful to me, etc. One even made a comment that my son was going to come out fat with diabetes because I ate chocolate ice cream for breakfast and that I needed to eat better. Needless to say I was livid. I cleaned the kitchen for eight hours straight while 30 something weeks pregnant because he left the kitchen such a diaster I couldn't take it anymore and about an hour after I was done, it was a mess again. His room was even more putrid.

Anyway, enough ranting. Which is worse and why?
