Irregular period after BC

I got off the pill in April and have been trying ever since. I never started my period so I took test ever two weeks and they were negative. I finally got a period. The first two days were heavy then was just spotting. We are really excited to be trying for baby #1 but with my period not starting and being irregular we don't really know what to do. Any ideas or comments or suggestions would be nice!
