first solids at 5 months?

The earliest appointment I can get with my babys pediatrician is in May but she seems interested in food now. I think shes ready now. Should I just wait 3 more weeks for the pediatrician or should I start this weekend? She just turned 5 months old a few days ago.

My daughter’s GI Doctor said 5 months for food and no cereal. Babies can’t really digest it properly until 12 months and after doing some research I’ve read terrible things about giving babies cereal so we are sticking to just fruit and vegetable purées made at home.

My son turned 5 months on the first and last week his Gastro doctor gave us the okay to start. I think as long as you introduce them correctly she would be fine. My Gastro doctor told me first rice for 3 days then oatmeal for 3 days then each orange veggie for 3 days then each green veggie for 3 days then to fruit. As long as she is hitting her milestones as well she should be fine

we got the go ahead to start with baby oatmeal. as a mom of 3 I started my other 2 on oatmeal around 4-5 months, then veggies around 5-6months, then fruits and baby yogurts around 6 months. Introduce them one at a time, a few days in a row to rule out any allergies.

my wee woman is on solids for a month now and she's 5 months...she enjoys her baby rice in morning and night and fruit in afternoon 😊

New AAP recommendations say not to start until 6 months. In addition to other following indicators of readiness: 
-sitting up
-loss of reflex that pushes food out
-pincer grip (able to hold and pick up things with thumb and index finger) 
If you’re child isn’t meeting these I’d be hesitant to start without pediatricians blessing.

I would try cereal first for a couple weeks then move to food. My daughter is turning 5 months tomorrow and I just started cereal in the mornings. She doesn’t know how to pass food yet, so she basically spits it back out lol 
My pediatrician said to start cereal whenever I felt she was ready for it, I didn’t have to wait till she was 6 months.

If you really want to run it past them you can always call and ask to speak with the doctor. 
But it’s probably fine, some peds say to start at 4 months. If you do just research the right foods to start with bc their digestive systems are still changing, also space out new foods enough that if they have any sort of reaction you know which one it was.
