Possible cerebral palsy

Jo

So I had a very normal pregnancy and very normal labor and very normal birth. From the beginning I’ve had problems. Eating problems, developmental problems, muscle weakness. It’s been an uphill battle. For the first six months of his life he was behind but not so behind that the pediatrician worried. Then it became evident that he was very behind. No sitting or normal babbling or army crawls. He still wasn’t able to lift up much during tummy time. Unfortunately I was in school so I didn’t notice at first and I feel so guilty about that. When I did notice I quit school for the semester. Nothing made him better and he was falling so behind. We’ve been to so many specialists and early interventionists and speech therapy and physical therapy and occupational therapy that I can’t even count how many appointments we’ve had. His PT noticed that his body didn’t seem right and thought he had some skeletal abnormalities so she recommended seeing an orthopedic specialist. I recently got Daniel a new pediatrician and she also wanted him to go because of his stiff hips. We went today. His X-rays are all normal. Normal spine, normal rib cage, normal hips. The specialist said he had poor muscle tone and that’s why he can’t crawl or walk. He also said that it’s very likely he has cerebral palsy. I did lots of googling and a lot of it really makes sense if that’s what Daniel has. I’m going to start the process of getting an official diagnosis and I let his therapists know so we have an idea what to do moving forward. I’m so scared about the future and I just want my son to be a normal 13 month old.
