5 year old growing out nails?

Question

My 5 year old keeps telling me that she wants her nails to grow long like mine so she can paint them. Ive been trying to tell her that we can still paint them when they’re short but she’s not having it lol
Does anyone have a young child with long-ish nails? I feel like there’s just no way that works haha but I’d like to let her try to grow them I guess

I’d say 5 might be a little young but not as far off as you might think. I was a tomboy in many respects but when I was about 7, my mom finally gave in and told me “fine, IF you can take care of long nails, you can grow them out,” figuring a 2nd grader who liked to climb trees wouldn’t have the patience to keep her nails clean, filed, etc. (Deal was if I didn’t do maintenance/upkeep, they were getting cut and would stay short for a long time.)
I totally did so she sucked it up and painted them regularly for me until I could do so on my own. I was the envy of the other girls at school including the older ones 😜
Might want to stall if you can and when push comes to shove, see if she’s up to the task

I wouldn’t, if I see a child with long nails I just assume that their parents are too lazy to cut them.

Just cut your nails and then she can be like you without the long nails. You can polish both your nails and hers and she can feel awesome without the hassle of having a child with long nails.

I would take her to the nail salon with you. They’ll give her a manicure and make them cute but keep them nice and trimmed.

My daughter when she was 5 wanted long nails. During the summer I let them grow and polished them. One broke and she kept crying. She said, mommy cut them all . Then , she started it with it again I bought her those fake ones for kids. They kept falling off . She’s 7 now she hates me even asking her do you want me to polish your nails. 😂😂

My 5 year old is the same. But I told her mine are fake lol. I keep her nails short and tell her if she has long nails they get dirty easily- I usually take her with me when I get my nails done she gets hers painted.

I probably wouldn’t let her do that because you know how much it hurts when you break a nail? And kids do so much rough activity! But I would let her get little kids press on nails or whatever
