Cleaning belly button piercing with peroxide?

I just got my belly pierced and my piercer told me to clean it 3 times a day with hydrogen peroxide. I did some research when I got home and I heard that it's not good to clean with peroxide. Is this true? Should I listen to my piercer and just clean it with peroxide?

Idk what the hell your piercing is thinking. Peroxide dries it out and can actually cause an infection. There’s sea salt spray you can buy, but soap and water is perfect fine. I personally think the spray is what caused mine to get infected. I would ask a different piercer as to what works best!

Nooo don’t use peroxide. It will kill bad bacteria but it will also kill all the good cells, drying it out and taking much longer to heal. Use a sea salt solution, you can find the proper ratio online. Or you can also buy a piercing spray like H2Ocean (I recommend that one if you want to buy one). Only clean twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. Over cleaning will also do more harm than good ESPECIALLY with peroxide. Your piercer is an idiot to recommend hydrogen peroxide! Coming from someone with 13 piercings

Clean your piercings with non scented antibacterial soap, 2-3x a day, clean your hands before you do so, don’t move the jewelry as you can slow the healing process, some yellow discharge can be normal as it’s the healing process, scanning is normal too, belly button can take 6 months to 1 year to fully heal.

I always cleaned all my piercings with sea salt nothing else , when i would clean my belly i would take warm water and mix sea salt with it in a cup and put the cup on the belly and lay down for about 10 mins . I did it 2-3 times a day . Never had a problem

Not sure what kind of piercer you went to.. Please use H2Ocean Sea Salt Spray, Bactine Spray, or Unscented Dial Soap with water. NEVER use Peroxide or Alcohol on a piercing. Also, please see another piercer to make sure your piercing was done correctly. If the piercer told you to use Peroxide, then chances are he/she doesn't know much else about piercing either. PS: I used to be a piercer.

Never use hydrogen peroxide on it. You should only use an unscented soap (I liked dial foaming soap when I got mine done). Clean it 2-3 times a day and do sea salt soaks on it. You can either soak a cotton ball in sea salt water and hold it on there or I used a shot glass. Mix sea salt and warm water in the glass, lean forward to put it over the piercing then stand up while holding it in place and it’ll create a seal to hold the warm water on the piercing. Sit for about 5 minutes then rinse and gently pat dry.

I’ve have a few piercings and have gone with friends to get piercings done and always always always been told to never put anything on a piercing you wouldn’t put in your eye. If you didn’t get cleaner from the place that did it clean it with saline solution and make sure it’s not a “no rub” solution.
