Testing 1 week before AF

Hey All, my husband & I are TTC. He works on the road, so it’s hard to do the baby dance much let alone in that small window when I’m ovulating. According to the app i was to ovulate last Saturday so i took a trip to see him & do the deed. We did it once Thursday and twice Friday. I noticed Friday my CM was of egg white consistency and there was more of it than usual, and Saturday there wasn’t much. Saturday we also weren’t able to do it. I’m hoping the app was off and i actually ovulated on Friday. Anyway, AF is due next Wednesday May 2nd. I’ve had a slight dull headache in the back of my head the last 2 days and my CM seems more prevalent. I got antsy & took a test today and it was negative. Do you think it’s too soon to tell? I got the dollar store blue tests, should i try a different kind?
