So, I started having pain on my right side around 10am yesterday, thought it was gas or something. I took some tums and gas x, that didn’t help. Around 2 I thought it was time to call the doctor. I called my primary care doctor and they wanted to see me right away. Almost as soon as they saw me they said we are worried about appendicitis so you need to go to the hospital. By this time my pain was so bad I was feeling like I would vomit or pass out. I got to the hospital, they see me right away and start doing blood tests and urine samples. While collecting urine I realized I was bleeding. I usually have 27 day cycles and was only on cycle day 21. They gave me some pain killers and said that they were going to call for a CT scan to see what was happening with my appendix.

My husband finally gets there and my er doctor comes in and says, “You’re pregnant!” I said what?!??? That was the last thing I thought it could possibly be. My husband and I were in shock! They told us I was only 3 weeks along. I then started placing things together and realized something is wrong, I’m bleeding and having tremendous pain.

They ordered an ultrasound. They did a transvaginal ultrasound and it was pretty painful. They took me back to my room and after waiting for what seemed like an eternity, the doctor came in and said that the radiologist looked at my results and he’s worried it might be an ectopic pregnancy. My heart sank. I knew this could mean that I might lose my tube. He said expect to stay overnight and possibly go into surgery tonight too. They told me they were sending in an ob doctor. I said ok. She came in and asked about 1000 questions and then told me that she thinks it is an ectopic pregnancy and that they were going to prep the or for surgery tonight and that I more than likely won’t have a tube or ovary anymore on my right side. She went into more detail and it scared the hell out of me. For whatever reason, I mentioned that my doctor had delivered me at that hospital and she said oh, who is your doctor. I told her and she said, ok, I’ll call someone from that office to assist me in surgery. I said ok.

Next thing I know my er doctor is back and is saying that the doctor from my ob practice doesn’t think it is an ectopic pregnancy at all and that he would be down to examine me. Talk about a roller coaster of emotions!

The ob from my practice came down and did his exam and looked over all of my results and said, you have a 7cm cyst on your ovary and I think that’s what is causing all of your pain. Again, I am in shock because the previous ob doctor from the er didn’t even mention that I had a cyst on my ovary! He said I think the baby is where it needs to be and you should go home for the night and go see your doctor tomorrow morning.

We followed his directions, went home and called the doctor in the morning. I had an ok night with not a lot of pain luckily.

I’m waiting to go to my appointment now. I’ll update later!

But moral of the story is always get a second opinion! I can’t believe that I almost had surgery last night and would have lost the baby, my tube and ovary! For a giant cyst! I can’t even wrap my head around this!
