Crumby Landlords, Need Advice!!
I’ve lived in this building since March 2015, my son was born April 2015. I moved into a 3 bedroom with my mom and grandmother and the apartment had just been redone and it looked great. When two downstairs 2 bedrooms became available I took 1 and my mom & gma took the other. My apartment had the least amount of windows I have ever seen and was in the back corner of the building so it was always cold and damp. I started noticing black mold growing in the bathroom so I notified my landlords and they TILED OVER IT. They didn’t even remove it. My uncle had a very bad allergic reaction to mold and eventually got really pale, sick, very dark rings under his eyes, and had breathing issues until they moved then he slowly got better so when the upstairs very sunny apartment became available I took that after they finished redoing the whole inside. I found out I was pregnant with baby #2 so we started getting things ready for him. I emptied out my closet and EVERYTHING was wet and covered in fuzzy green mold so I threw it all away and noticed black mold all over the floor under where I had everything. I rearranged my room and my box spring had it all over it where it had been against the wall, the walls were dripping with water, the walls under the window where my bed had been was covered, the window sills, everything. Then I started tearing my apartment apart and it was everywhere! I notified my landlords so they went up to the attic (use to be an apartment up there) they said they see no signs of mold and “it’s over insulated so the vapor barrier is too strong and trapping the moisture in” BS! My husband insulates buildings for a living so he went to the attic and their is literally no vapor barrier at all. They ripped up 70% of the floor to redo the other apartments and all of the insulation that is suppose to be in the in between floor is definitely not there. My son has had diarrhea for over 6 months, very dark circles under his eyes, is very pale, and snores like crazy. When the dr listened to his breathing he said he definitely is having an allergy to something that is most likely messing with his good bacteria causing the diarrhea. (Super frustrating seeing as I’ve taken him to the dr multiple times and he just kept telling me he’s fine I just need to feed him bread so that he can gain some weight). He is now taking Claritin and probiotics everyday but needless to say we need a new home AND a new dr. I’m just at a loss on what to do because my husband is the only one working and daycare would cost more than what I would make at any job near where I live. I feel like a failure as a parent having my son in this place his entire life and not knowing until now that this is the problem. Is their a test they can do on my son to see if it’s caused by black mold exposure so I can show my landlords that they need to get their head out of their asses and do something? Either way I’m moving I just don’t know what I can do to get the money to get the hell out of here! Baby #2 is 3m and the dr said he’s not worried because he’s breastfed and I probably didn’t have problems with my 3yo until recently because he was BF for the first 18m but that dr is also clearly an idiot so idk what to believe. Please help! 😞
