Newborn carrier

We purchased the infantino gather baby carrier before baby was born so we can use it early on. The newborn weight requirement is 8lbs and baby boy was born weighing 7lbs 13oz so we figured that maybe by the time he’s a week old we can start using it. We bought the carrier specifically because of the price and that it had a way of cinching “gathering” the seat part in so it doesn’t spread baby’s legs apart. Baby is now 8lbs 14oz at two weeks old and we can’t use the carrier yet. Every time I put him in the carrier he screams, I’m not forcing his little legs either. Could it be the cinched part is not cinched enough, he doesn’t like being in the carrier or his legs are still too close together for this type of carrier ? Kinda bummed because I wanted to start baby wearing early on with this little guy so we don’t have to bring his car seat everywhere with a toddler too that we would like to use the stroller with.
