Sex Ed sit out

Cynthia

So I had just heard about this protest that apparently took place on Monday. According to their website, they are “sick of the sexualization of [their] children that takes place everyday in the classrooms across our nation”

They also talk about saying “NO to graphic, immoral sex education for our kids”

Upon further research (and I’ll be honest when I say research I mean googling and reading a few articles) it seems like a censorship of real sex Ed and perhaps may even promote something similar to abstinence- only sex Ed.

There’s been lots of evidence showing that abstinence only sex Ed doesn’t work and only contributes to unsafe sex practices.

This movement also seems to be against people that are transgender, gender fluid, etc.

I don’t have children so I feel like my opinion will probably change later but I’ll list out my own thoughts

- i remember learning about puberty in elementary school... it wasn’t at all as “graphic” as they state it is. It was more like... here’s some deodorant and pads

- the “sex Ed” I received was essentially photos of stds

-this movement posted some images that supposedly Planned Parenthood created for sex Ed... and I have to say they do seem a bit graphic for young people, however I think by the time they enter high school most have seen worse in regular movies

overall I think this is a terrible movement that wants to impose its transphobic views under the guise of supposed better sex Ed. But I’m interested in what everyone else thinks. Since I don’t have kids, I want to know what parents think of this movement or even of the current sex Ed students receive. Do you think sex Ed should be taught in school or should it be reserved for parents to teach their kids? Or should we hire a therapist/ psychologist/ professional to teach them? Hey
