Eye gook

My son has had eye gook (yellow) in his eye on and off for a few weeks. doctor says it could just be allergies and/or a clogged tear duct and told us to massage his tear duct (🙄 - he's an 18 month old boy who never sits still). anyways, we've tried to do that occasionally but yesterday he started getting sick and now the eye gook is out of control. we're massaging and wiping but are wondering if there's anything else we can do. any recommendations? advice?
