Hospital bag necessities?

I’ll be giving birth in July and I was wondering what you ladies took with you in your hospital bag?

it really depends what your hospital will supply you with. I packed so much and used so little. 
chapstick, pj pants and button down pj top, underwear, toothbrush and toothpaste, hair brush, DVDs, camera, phone charger. change of clothes for my husband and his toothbrush
baby going home outfit, and a few extras for pictures.

check with the hospital you'll be giving birth at. They usually provide all the basic necessities for baby like diapers, wipes, pacifiers, etc. So no need to bring stuff they already have. Also, check what they provide postpartum items for free. The hospital I gave birth at had menstrual pads, mesh undies, cooling gel pads, robes etc. So in actuality, I only needed to bring extra clothes for myself and one pair of going-home clothes for baby. you can bring clothes for baby to wear while there but usually there is a bassinet that has heating for newborns so no need to worry about he/she getting cold. I would really suggest to bring yourself a nursing bra if you plan to nurse as well as a nursing cover if you feel shy when nurses or doctor comes in to check on you.

Comfy pajamas, toiletry stuff so you can shower (you’ll feel like a new woman after a shower and putting your own clothes on), clothes and toiletry stuff for your partner, going home outfit for baby (I packed a bunch of baby clothes and couldn’t use them because they made us put her in hospital clothes until discharge for security reasons), picture outfit for baby if you’re getting hospital pictures taken, nipple shields/nursing bra/nipple cream if you plan on breastfeeding, maybe some small snacks like protein bars or trail mix for when the cafeteria is closed, water bottle (the huge plastic pitcher they give you is a pain to drink out of), camera, phone charger, robe and slippers if you use them at home (I brought both but never used them at the hospital).
Don’t bother packing pads, diapers, wipes, or formula if formula feeding. Take advantage of what the hospital supplies instead... you’re already paying for it. Hats, baby blankets, sleep sacks, and onesies were also supplied by my hospital.

Clothes for me to come home in, clothes for baby to come home in, and phone chargers. Hospital gave me everything else, although their baby wipes were horrible and I wish I had my own.

Please make sure you take the wipes Methodist hospital does not provide wet wipe... they give u these type tissue or whatever u call them .... they were not much help

It depends on what the hospital provides. They will often have a list of suggested items to bring. Mine only supplied baby clothes, baby blanket and cloth nappies while in hospital. I did get a promotional bag with a heap of product samples but they wouldn't have been adequate.
