When and why are you being induced?

I'm 29 weeks and my OB plans to induce me at the 39th week. My first pregnancy I ended up with a broken tailbone and 3rd degree laceration. I was overdue and I'm very small with an average-sized baby. So that's why my new OB wants to induce me earlier. She doesn't want me to have long-lasting damage.
