Having trouble burping newborn

I’m having trouble burping my newborn! I’ve tried the way the hospital showed us how to do it and he only burps maybe once or twice a day when he’s feeding every 2 hours pretty much throughout the day.

Is this going to hurt him? He gets random hiccups throughout the day is this the cause? I don’t want to cause him any pain

What can i do to help him burp? What positions do you guys use
