Zika questions?

So I live in Texas and I’m terrified of this Zika. With my first it wasn’t a thing.... at least I had never heard of it so it never even crossed my mind. But with baby number 2 I’m a freak about it. Any moms have any Zika advice I got bug spray today.... maybe I’m crazy but I looked up Texas and we’ve already had to cases with symptoms (some ppl never get symptoms)

I was in Mexico when I got pregnant- didn’t even think of Zika. But the bugs LOVE me and I am always the first person to be covered in bites on holiday or hot weather.
When I went to my first prenatal appt, dr suggested I get tested, which freaked me out.
Dr then told me there are plenty of known active Zika cases in my area where moms had the full blown virus and symptoms while pregnant and delivered healthy babies. That calmed me down.
My test came back negative. While I won’t be hiding indoors for the rest of my pregnancy, will be sure to use citronella and natural remedies to ward the bugs away

I live in Florida and am not worried about it. All cases are travel related so far. If I am spending a lot of time in the yard I will burn citronella candles and I have one of those things you wear on your belt loop, but I did that before I was pregnant. I just hate mosquito bites!

All cases of Zika in 2018 are travel related, meaning there is no local transmission. I would use bug spray when you are going to be outside for a long period of time, and not worry too much about it otherwise.

Im from brownsville. Right at the bottom of Texas by the Mexico border. There was Zika there and according to my doc still is so she tells me to avoid the area. It still shows up on the CDC website. I live in Portland, TX now. She said if I were to plan a trip just to make sure I get bug spray that contains DEET in it.

Just because there are cases of Zika doesn’t mean the Zika infected mosquito is present. It likely means people traveled to areas with the Zika virus. You will be fine. :)
