it's not necessarily your fault he hit you, people have control over their own body. He didn't have to hit back. He did that on his own... BUT don't hit somebody & expect not to be hit back. It would be your fault for provoking it & hitting him in the first place.

My mother has ALWAYS told me you can not hit anyone and expect not to be hit back man or woman! Even someone who has never laid hands on a woman may reaction out of sheer instinct and swing back before realizing the actions he's making!

I do believe that we are all human, no matter who you are if you hit me, I will hit you back and sometimes without even thinking. 
You can’t go around provoking and hitting people (no matter the gender) and not expect someone to hit you back. Respect him and he will respect you. 
If he isn’t abusive and has never hit you other than the incident then yes but you are wrong here.

a man should never hit a woman ife list my temper because my husband knows the buttons to press and he's WAY WAY WAY LOUDER than I am so I cannot get a word in so I lost it and popped him to shut him up, this was years ago when we were pretty volatile and have had counseling with our pastor and this are much better but of all the times I've hit him he's NEVER EVER hit me back didn't even put his hands on me at all not even restraining just let me go at him of course this is very wrong and no one should ever hit their spouse and I'm very ashamed of it, BUT no a man should NEVER EVER EVER hit a woman no matter what!!
