Negative review - should I restart my account or will it hurt my chances?
A little backstory: I am a nanny. I was working for a family for a couple of months. The first day I interviewed, I was nervous for the children. It ended with me needing to call CPS to make sure the children were ok. The woman found out it was me, called me, and then left a negative review (full of lies). I obviously lost my job and then let my account expire. I’m not sure if it’s worth it to restart my account. How would you feel if you saw a review like this, would you pass it up? I just need a job. I applied for other non nanny jobs (30) and haven’t heard back and its been a month.
About the review: when I was first hired, there was mold in the sink, food was thrown all over the floor, the baby was sitting in dirty diapers from the night before (I worked at 8:00am), she often had rashes, there was never any clean clothes, there was never any food in the house and the children often had to eat bread and oranges the whole day. They all had an infection in the corners of their mouths called impetigo, which I called a doctor and she said it’s rare now a days and usually occurred in an unclean environment. The children told me their parents left them alone for hours by themselves downstairs (7,4,2 age). The mother had told me that she left her 4 and 4 yr old in the house while she was outside for an hour and a half because she was on the phone. She let her 2 yr old alone near a pool and she fell in. I began to worry and abuse and not just neglect. The mom never got medicine for the children’s infection. They were sick an upwards of 6 times since I started working and I was sick 2 times. I swept up broken glass where the kids were walking around barefoot. The 4 year old got sick, threw up laying on her back, got throw up in her hair, and her mother left it for me to clean the next morning. I cleaned out dried vomit from her hair. If they peed the bed during the night, they had to sleep in it. It was disgusting and terrible. The mom fed her 2 year old, who is lactose intolerant, cheese sticks and milk for 3 days in a row, until she had the worst diarrhea ever. The last straw was when the oldest (7) had 3 infections and possible strep at the same time. She had a bladder infection, a fever, impetigo, diarrhea and more. The mom confided in me that she had to take her back for testing because it’s possible she had meningitis! She took her to the doctors the night before and didn’t get medicine until that afternoon. Even though the doctor said it was important she started on medicine right away. And she needed 4 different medications.
I did what I thought I had to do to protect the children. But what would you do if yo saw that review? Should I just not renew because likely no one will want me? I was a 5 star nanny and now I’m 3.5. I have 3 reviews total, both other ones are 5 stars. I can also apply for senior care jobs. But I’m worried I’ll just be wasting my money. (And I never lied to keep my job because I didn’t want to work for someone who treats their kids like that)
