Mirena removal: Spotting or period?

I've had two Mirenas - one placed in 2009, then removed and replaced 5 years later. I never really had a period on either. Just very occasional spotting that didn't warrant a pad or tampon. I just had that second Mirena removed on Monday so DH and I can TTC. I've felt a dull ache and had some "heavy spotting", I guess, since then. I've read that Mirena can cause cramps and spotting but for 3 days? I'm wearing a heavier pantyliner because I'm feeling something heavier than spotting. But it's driving me crazy - what is this? IUD removal spotting or the start of a period?

Thoughts/opinions?
