Help?

Chef Cara • Currently cook for a fine dining restaurant in Traverse City. Single, 29, chef, would love to be a mom someday.

My coworker and his girlfriend are expecting their first baby in June. It's a girl. My coworker is like a brother to me and i can't wait to meet my niece. The baby shower is this month and I decided to make them something. Not only do I cook for a restaurant but I took a job at Michaels part-time when the slow season started at the restaurant. One of the perks of working there is you get a 30% discount including all sale items.

I figured why not use my discount to make them something cool. I thought about making a care package for mommy and baby. I was going to do two woven baskets one for the baby and one for the mom and dad. I figured I would put in the baby's basket the essentials along with some special items that won't be already given to her at her  baby shower.

For the parent's basket I thought maybe some things that they could use to spend time with each other when baby is sleeping and things they might need to take to the hospital. For example like a dvd they could watch together for a "date night" and it would have candy among other things inside if it to get through those rough days. The only problem is I'm not sure what else to put into the basket. So to any expecting moms or anyone what would you want/need for something like this? Is this a good idea or should I just buy a gift?
