Birth options for twins?

Before finding out we were having twins, I was really planning on a natural birth without epidurals. Now I'm told 60+% of twins are born via C-section and some of the high risk doctors around here won't even consider vaginal births. What are you guys doing (or have you done)?

My doctor said that as long as baby A is head down, she'll let me attempt a vaginal delivery. She also won't let me go beyond 37 weeks, which is totally understandable. Hoping we make it that long! :) I don't agree with any doctor who isn't comfortable allowing a mother attempt to deliver her twins naturally (under the right circumstances, of course.) When we thought our girls were mono-mono, I knew there was only one option - cesarean. Now that we found the membrane, and as long as A is in a good position, a pushing I will go! ;-) Good luck!

Most twins are born via c-section because doctors are scared of vaginal twin delivery. I suggest finding a qualified midwife.

I had my vertex/breech twins safely at home 3 1/2 years ago. And if this pregnancy proves to be another twin pregnancy like I suspect, then they will be born at home as well.

I delivered my twins naturally.. Twin B was breech and they were preemies..

Mine will be c section because 1 is breech and that's safer for the babies. No question as far as I'm concerned. Their safety comes first!

Do your research and choose a dr who is willing to go natural. If you don't like the way they treat you then switch, and you can switch right up until the end. If all goes well and all of you are healthy there is no reason to not have a natural birth, if that's what your heart is set on. One thing I looked for in a dr was their willingness to do vbacs, that's normally an indicator they support natural. It can be tough, but they are out there. Don't settle.

I'm planning on a vaginal birth with an epidural as long as Baby A is head down. I had a vaginal delivery with my firstborn and it went okay, though he had to be delivered with the vacuum extractor after 3.5 hours of pushing. But I will use an epidural because my doctor explained that if Baby B is not head down they may need to reach up and turn her, and also if there is any need for a c-section if you don't have an epidural you have to be completely put under instead of being able to witness the birth. I had an epidural with my firstborn after 8 hours of hard labor and it finally helped me dilate whereas I wasn't progressing otherwise, so I am really thankful I was able to use it. Also, because my twins are mono-di and research shows there are significant risks after 37 weeks, I will have a scheduled induction sometime during week 36. And if Baby A is breech or another position other than head down, I assume I will have a c-section.

It's up to your doctor. My doctor delivers over 90% of twins via csection. They won't even attempt a breech extraction because it can be harmful to mama and baby!
