How do you know if you're dilated?

I'm 37 weeks + 3 days. I have seen a lot of posts by women around as far along as I am mentioning they are this dilated, etc.

How do you know? Is it because you go to the hospital and check or your doctor checks you at your appointments?

My midwife sees me every 2 weeks and has never checked me to tell me if I'm dilated..

Thanks for all the responses. I was just curious as many of you seemed to know if you were dilated at this stage of pregancy.

I'm sure she will come soon enough. Hoping it will be a smooth labour without complications so she comes nice and healthy.

My doctor does it at each weekly appointment.

I'm in the U.S. and my doctor checked at 38 weeks

My cervix has been checked since week 33.

I had a different dr w my 2nd, had a planned c section and was never checked!

I'm in the USA and my midwife didn't check me until I was 39 weeks.

My doctor started checking at 34 weeks but I'm high risk due to hypertension and hypothyroidism so maybe that's why I was checked so early.

I see a midwife in a hospital and she hasn't checked and won't till I think I'm in labour. I'm 39+1 weeks

I have been checked every week now since 33 weeks because I went into preterm labor.....

My first pregnancy my doctor never checked until I was in the hospital with contractions.  This second pregnancy he checks every week.  Not sure why but whatever lol
