How did y’all know?

How did all you great dudes know you were trans? I’ve been questioning for about a year now- I loathe dresses and pink with my entire soul and I mostly wear jeans, t-shirts and beanies. I hate my chest and being called feminine names like princess and girly and I really want to cut my hair short. My mom has mentioned me acting like a boy and she’s transphobic I’m 99% sure. My friends are mostly girls though since all the boys around my age are jerks. Thank you and I hope you guys have a good day!

I read an article online about a trans person online, and something inside me was like that’s you. You’re just like them. Stuff started to fall in place. My parents still deny that this is who I am, but I’ve known for almost 3 years now and more sure than ever. You just do. Also dysphoria is a big hint.

It was a bit eh? At first because I was always super girly even my main fursona is fem 
I loved wearing dresses and pink but then it just changed and the more I changed the more I hated those things 
My fursona really helps me feel ok tho :) try ocs they might help but watch out they can also change your perception of yourself

I can’t really pinpoint anything specific other than the vague feeling of not being “normal”. The event that I call my “awakening” was a basketball game in PE. All of the students were allowed to pick teams as long as they were in sixes and everyone just kind of naturally sorted themselves into teams of all girls/all boys. I was the last person without a team and, since the coaches didn’t say we were doing boys vs girls, I joined the team of my only friend in that class, who happened to be a boy. Afterwards, the coach said that we were doing boys vs girls because that’s how we were split up but they didn’t make me switch to a team of girls. That was the first time in months that I felt perfectly normal. A “girl” on the boys team. That was when I really started questioning. I went to my next class and immediately went to my friends (who are ace and bi so I knew they’d be chill) and told them what happened. At first I was kind of in denial about the entire thing and said that it was nothing and that I wasn’t questioning but even then, less than an hour after I first started thinking about this, I felt like I was lying to them and myself. 
Tl:dr: I started questioning because of a basketball game.

By realizing that I had a habit of being the more “manly” side of my friend group, for example, being the braver, stupid idiot that starts fights with the people that bullied my friends

It just sort of sneaked up on me? I knew I wasn’t straight for a long time (at first I thought I was a lesbian but I’m pan) and that was it and I was just a cis girl. Then I realized sometimes I just didn’t feel like a girl and, for a while, I used the the term genderfluid to describe it but eventually that just didn’t fit either. Before I even started calling myself trans I had had an attachment to the name Benny and I decided to start using the name online and that was that—I knew I wasn’t a girl.
Experiment with your expression and with what you call yourself online. Gender is a spectrum and it can take a while to find out where you fall on that spectrum or if you’re on it at all.
And btw your mom sounds a lot like mine (except mine tells me that I look like a man and to her that means I must be a lesbian? Moms are weird.)

I was asking my friends about how to deal with the discomfort when people label you as female and how to deal with the misalignment between who you are and who you’re supposed to be, and one of my friends understood. I mentioned this to a friend who is also trans and they brought up the idea that I might not be cis, so I played with pronouns and names and clothes and such until I found a label and identity that felt right.
