I got spanked as a child and even as a teenager would get smacked across the face for my smart mouth. NEVER left bruises. NEVER broke skin. As a grown woman I have thanked my mother for being raised like this. So....

Everybody says spanking isn't a big deal, blah blah blah. But I was spanked as a child and eventually it stopped working as a punishment. I used to have everything taken away from me. Toys, bed, phone, laptop, literally everything. I would cry and cry and sob and sob, but my behavior never changed. My parents never sat and talked to me or let me share my opinion and to this day at almost 18 i don't have a say in a lot of things. My mother has slapped me, shoved me, ripped my shirt, called me names, shoved me into an open dishwasher by my hair, etc. I will never ever lay my hands on my child. Ever. It has ruined me as a person. I can't joke around with my bf and "play fight" I flinch every time his hand raises no matter what it is, I have anxiety attacks when we get in even small arguments. Etc. all bc my parents were TOO MUCH. rather, pit them in timeout, let them cry. Go to them when they're done and say, "do you know why you're in trouble?" If not, explain and tell them if it happens again they'll be in timeout longer. Etc. like there's no reason at any age to lay your hands on a CHILD. let alone your OWN CHILD. all I have is bad memories of my parents bc of that shit.

I was slapped and choked until I was 14 with my bio mother and ended up in foster care. It’s easy to not be abusive.

not at any age to hit or slap. spanking i did lightly on the butt one time when my kids were in diapers and that was after the third time of them not listening. but recent studies show thats not even okay.
