Okay, so my brother and his girlfriend (of 8 years) split up about a month ago. Friday was my eldest nephew's 6th birthday. His mother promised him before leaving the daycare (my mom is a teacher there so she told me this) that she would take him for a birthday dinner that night. That afternoon she called my brother and told him that she was going out of town with her boyfriend and he was supposed to get the boys. My brother calls me a few hours later and says he's about a minute and a half away from my house and asked if I'd keep the boys. I just cannot believe neither of them wanted to spend the day with their son on his birthday!! I mean this is the ONE DAY a year that the day is supposed to be all about that kid..well, in my family it is anyways. We were raised that way. It just shocks me that they are being like this. I understand that they are both newly single and trying to enjoy it, but they have kids no matter what. I was in their situation 3 and a half years ago. I regret the nights I missed my kids for $.25 drinks at the bar. Granted, that phase only lasted about 2 months, but still. When it came time for school nights or birthdays I never missed!!
