Sex after pregnancy

I don't think I've had a period since after having my daughter. I bled for about 2 months on and off even having cramps. One time I even logged it into the Glow period tracker thinking it could've been my cycle. I have yet to see any blood since March. I've had cramping like my period is coming but then nothing. SO and I have made love 3 times without protection. I can't start my birth control (the patch) until I start my cycle..How long did it take for your cycle to return?
