Was wondering if you are banking cord blood and if you are also doing cord tissue?

I really wanted to donate my cord blood but I'm not eligible. I'm a pediatric hematology/oncology nurse and I've seen donated cord blood save little lives. I always wanted to donate but according to Be The Match, I'm not a candidate because I've been treated for tuberculosis (I never really had it) after traveling to West Africa 10 years ago :( I'm heartbroken. I encourage anyone with a clean health history to consider donating - it's free to you and is done after baby is born so there is 0 risk to either of you - and you could save a life!! What a gift!!

The hospital I’m delivering in will do it for free if it’s a donation. I don’t feel the need to keep it for my own family, but I will absolutely donate ours if we’re eligible.

Totally donate it if you can! check with your hospital to see if you can. it's free to donate. there's no need for you to keep it for your child; its expensive, very rare they'll need it, and your child can always get donated cord bloof if they do ever need any.

I was going to donate but I want to do delayed cord cutting. Since I am a little anemic I found out they might delay until the cord stops pulsing and there would be nothing left to donate.

I donated mine with my last pregnancy. I’d rather have it out there to help a kiddo in need, if my child can always use the donor bank if they need it.
