Past 41 weeks? Refuse induction...

So I'm only 39+3 today and had my 39 week appt. of course they have me the talk about not letting their patients go past 41 weeks. I'm hoping to have him naturally before then but he'll come when he's ready. Most women in my family go 41 and several days. Anyone have experience with their doctors telling them this but choosing to refuse induction as long as all is well with mom and baby?

There is no research to indicate induction before 42 weeks for healthy low-risk pregnancies. The average gestation for a first-time mother is actually 41wks 2days. After 42 weeks, the chance of complication does start to rise a little. I personally would refuse induction before 42 weeks and you would have to give me a damn good reason for me to consider it prior to 43 weeks. However, it is your body and your baby, so you need to do what feels right. There is really no right or wrong answer here. Jusy always remember that the doctors do not have the final say. You are in charge of your own medical decisions.

My son was born at 41 weeks exactly. They threatened to induce me the next Monday so I walked and walked and drank water and slept. Went into labor that sat. He was 6lbs exactly. They really should leave the low risk people alone.

Yes I unfortunately had this experience with my last baby. I had what I thought was a natural-friendly OB, supposedly on board with what I wanted... But when I got close to my due date he started pushing to schedule an induction. I found out he had a vacation planned, go figure. I ultimately ended up firing him & getting a midwife! If your gut tells you to let baby come naturally, then I'd definitely listen to that! Remember, he works for YOU not the other way around :)

Just want to offer support. I've never gone with a provider that had that kind of cut off. Mine have all pushed for heavier monitoring past 42 weeks. But no interventions based solely on gestational age.

Not one of mine came before 41 weeks. If you know your family history tends toward longer gestation maybe looking into other provider options is something you should think about. I know that's terribly stressful at this point. But the average first time mom goes over 41 weeks if they aren't induced. So their unwillingness to do that seems like a big warning light to me.

Id just get a second opinion.  If they drop u as a patient the emergency room and local labor and delivery will always be there.  I caved on mine after they told me my fluid were low and baby want growing.  I later wished i had gotten a second opinion after a hard induction and perfectly healthy placenta baby and intact waters.  😢

My son was born at 41+6... Don't let them bully you. If your fluid is measuring ok and your placebta is still functioning well, and baby's Nst strips look good, do what you feel comfortable with. No one can MAKE you get an induction

My sis-in-law has been late with all three of her babies (41+ weeks). Her last they tried to scare her into induction and she refused. The office seriously called her every single day after 40 weeks. She finally delivered at 41+3 with a healthy baby boy completely natural. I think it comes down to listening to your body and having a support system that is on the same page. Best of luck!

I had "gestational diabetes" and I had 2 Ob Drs and a specialist in case one was on vacation. 1 dr told me at 37 weeks I needed to schedule my induction and I just flat out told her no. I told her as long as my child wasn't 12 lbs I will go at least 41 weeks without scheduled induction. What do to know she was going on vacation and wouldn't be back till after I was due. I told my other Ob dr that she would not be anywhere around when I had my baby... He was fine with that :).

I'm currently 41 + 5 and still no plans for an induction at this point. I'm using midwives and planning a home birth so they're pretty supportive. I go in tomorrow for a biophysical ultrasound to check placenta, fluid, etc but so far everything has been fine. You might ask your Ob if they would be willing to do some less aggressive things first, like stretching your cervix or possibly stripping your membranes. Maybe they would get off your back some if they felt like they had a little control. Or, as others have said, consider switching care providers!

Past 41 weeks? Refuse induction...
