Is getting your wisdom teeth taken out as big of a deal as everyone says it is?

I had been terrified my whole life after being traumatized as a child seeing my brother with the bloody cotton in his mouth, plus I had never been put under for a surgery before so I was absolutely terrified. I had also never been one to handle pain well either, but they put me under very quickly, surgery was less than half an hour, I came home and made mashed potatoes and life was good! 😂 no pain killers, ate solid foods the next day. I was totally healed in a week. It’s really not as bad as it’s hyped up to be.

Not everyone has to have them done. Mine were shifting the rest of my teeth and became a problem because I had braces as a teenager and then these wisdom teeth come and mess up what had been fixed. lol.
It hurts afterwards though. I was put to sleep for the procedure and was super loopy when I got out, but other than that and the after pain it isn’t too bad. Although, the whole time I was healing I was paranoid about dry socket and getting food down in the little pits where my teeth used to be. lol.

For most people it's not too bad. My teeth however have very strong roots... I've had 3 teeth out and I won't traumatise you with the details.

It’s scary if you’ve never had surgery before. I was super nervous, but it wasnt that bad.  Make sure you have like a week to recover before you need to do anything strenuous or need to eat real food. Recovery times are different for different people, but make sure you keep up your aftertreatment until you are sure you are all healed up. It basically sucks for a couple days while you have to recover, but if you can just veg and watch some tv and eat ice cream and applesauce, it won’t be too bad. 
Just remember- it’s a routine procedure, nearly everyone gets it. It’s not fun, but it’s better than painful teeth, and you’ll be all better and finished with everything in at least a month or so. Don’t worry about it. Good luck!

If you get them pulled with local numbing, the healing is pretty easy. I can’t speak as to having surgery and being put under anesthesia to have them cut out 🤷🏻‍♀️

As a  seasoned pro who had  her wisdom teeth removal surgery... I had all 4 removed all at once with an extra tooth that was impacted with a wisdom tooth. The only reason why I did this was due to the fact that I was also getting orthodontic treatment to straighten my teeth. So they had to go. I had my surgery about nine, ten years ago. My treatment was done by a oral maxillofacial surgeon, who also did my orthodontic procedure on my teeth after surgery. And let me tell you, he did a damn good job. Before my surgery I had a gap in my front top teeth, that became popular years ago, which is closed now. 
  Any who, I’m not sure if you are going to do one or all removal I would follow the instructions of your surgeon. For me I was put to sleep , via  gas mask and IV so I was out during my surgery. So as you know with any surgery, I could only eat up to a certain time the night before and could not have anything the next day before my surgery. Afterwards when I woke up I was so out of it that I told my surgeon that I wanted to go back to sleep. I had to wear loose clothing so that if anything happened during surgery they could quickly handle the problem. 
   Now someone will more than likely take you to your appointment and take you home. And yes I did not feel the pain until Several hours later. And yes it was the worst pain that I felt in my life. My mother  was the one who took me home and picked up my painkiller, and antibiotics. So a few things you will not be able to eat solid food right away. You will be on what I call the soft food diet. If you have all of your wisdom teeth removed at once I would try to eat a  luke warm. Something light and not heavy.  Drink plenty of water during your recovery as well. Don’t worry about brushing your teeth right away because you will have some bleeding. More than likely your surgeon will give you detail instructions on that to do. Also use ice pack since you will have gauze in your mouth and swelling in your face. Wait a few days to brush and do a warm salt water rinse to get the taste out of your mouth that will also aid in healing you do not want to use mouth wash that stings. If you do brush your teeth, do it gently and avoid the open wound area. Then warm water salt rinse. Eat soft foods like yogurt, apple sauce, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, Mac and cheese, ice cream, mashed potatoes...etc. also you will get some stiffness in your mouth so to combat that I did a gentle open my mouth and close exercises. I did that so my mouth would be more loose and comfortable. Since I had stitches in my mouth I did not want it too become tight. 
   Yes my face was swollen and looked like a chipmunk but all in all my recovery was gritty, but smoothed out over the weeks. Side note, I made my recovery with only Tylenol only if I needed it the pain killers ( Percocet) made me loopy. I only took it once on the day out of my surgery. And of course I took my antibiotics. So I’m happy that I did it all at once a total of five teeth and I never have to worry about it again. 
   So relax you will be fine get some rest before and after your recovery. It will go by quickly.

the only big deal is the aftermath.... they put me under because I got all four removed at once. ya girl doesn't remember falling asleep OR waking up.... all I remember is being wheeled out, crying, and complaining about some shit. my mom was like "girl, what? is this supposed to happen?" the nurse said "yeah, she's out of it" my mom still won't let me live it down. she's told past friends and they grandma, and my entire family now knows that I was a crying chipmunk...
