Should they have been arrested or not?

This article just came out about a couple who took their 2 month old baby floating on the river a few days ago. Multiple people called law enforcement about it and the police came and arrested them. The baby was naked wrapped up in the moms shirt, no sun screen, bottles, or diapers. I live in florida so the weather is

hot but the rivers are still freezing cold and snakes are a problem. There is a lot of controversy on whether the parents should have been arrested or not. What are your thoughts?

Maybe not arrested, but maybe have a case opened with CPS and offer information about safe swimming practices. I think the goal should be to teach, rather than being quick to punish. Yeah it seems like common knowledge not to take a two month old tubing in cold water with no life jacket, but some people just really don’t know or don’t stop to think.

Oh my, what idiots... they definitely should have some kind of punishment. I don't feel bad that they were arrested, they should probably be enrolled In a basic parenting class.

My parents would have went to jail because we swam in a pond that had snapping turtles and snakes. We also went to the beach and there are sharks in there. Was the water truly that cold? I’m asking because I’ve never been to Florida so I don’t know but my mom went there last year around April and the water was already pretty warm to swim in.  If it was really that bad, then at worst CPS should take a look. I don’t see any reason to arrest them.

So dangerous! Babies shouldn’t get any sun- UV rays can be really harmful. Not to mention the cold water and a baby who can’t swim in an inner tube with no bottom. Super irrisponsible, but idk if arresting is the best thing. Like someone else said, get CPS involved and let them have consequences from that.

There is obviously more to the story that wasn’t explained. What kind of parents do this? CPS should definitely be the involved and yes, this is a form of neglect so I don’t have an issue with their arrest. 🤷🏻‍♀️

That's definitely child endangerment but an educational lesson might have been more effective? Arresting is pretty harsh. I mean it gets the point across but so could a fine and required parenting classes or something.

not arrested, but you know issue them a warning like hey you should be carrying your baby stuff with you also cover your baby up so it doesn't get a fucking sun burn. i can't imagine a sunburn on a baby's sensitive skin. ouch
