Boyfriend issue

Girls I need some help ! What does it mean when your boyfriend rarely texts you? I know when he's not busy in the evening and he doesn't spend it texting me nor does he ever call me. Some nights he doesn't even text goodnight, and it's hurting. But I don't want to say anything because I realize how clingy and annoying that can be but it's bothering me a great deal
