“First” Mother’s Day?

My dad told me “Happy Mother’s Day” today (even though he knows it’s tomorrow), and I feel so weird about it. I’ve always hated Mother’s Day, because my mom hasn’t been much of a mother to me. It has a whole new meaning now which makes me so happy. But I haven’t experienced all the joys of motherhood quite yet. Anyone else celebrating while expecting #1?  Or waiting until next year?  I don’t wanna step on any toes of those who have struggled through all that comes with motherhood when I don’t have any idea what it’s like yet.  Annnnnd maybe I’m a little nervous about being a mom in a few weeks.

Part of being a mother is experiencing the joys (and immense, innumerable pains) of pregnancy.  You’re a mom hon. Even though your baby isn’t earth side yet, you’ve crossed the threshold with morning sickness and food aversion and stretch and whatever you’ve dealt with so far. I’m a mom of 2 toddler boys and soon to pop out my first girl (and final baby). Believe me, you’re not stepping on my toes by celebrating your first Mother’s Day with baby inside still. You’ve already earned your badge by handling pregnancy, which is NO easy task. The years of mothering add on stars to that badge is all. Welcome to the troop. We have cold coffee, baggy eyes and full hearts 😂

Last year was my first Mother’s Day and my husband was in training for work and ‘forgot’ and it absolutely broke my heart but I know he had a lot on his mind and was busy. This year, he has to work and I’m so bummed out and he keeps saying it’s ‘just a hallmark holiday’.

I don’t plan on celebrating and don’t think my husband is getting me anything (I’m not a big holiday/gift person), but our waiter at lunch today told me Happy Mother’s Day as we were leaving and I started to cry. Damn hormones. 😂

My husband is so sweet. He asked what I want to do for Mother’s Day. I was like well I am not a mother yet... a few weeks to go! And he was like ok, I just wanted to see how you felt about it and if you wanted to do something special! I said let’s call our Moms and send them cards ;) 
We are escaping for a night in Palm Springs but we would be doing that regardless of the day!

I celebrated my first Mother's Day when I was pregnant with my son. It felt right in my mind. Motherhood isn't just the time after baby is born to me. Being a mom and loving your child, in my opinion, starts during pregnancy. Universe knows that I wouldn't want to deal with the nausea, the vomiting, the pregnancy scares (bleeding, liver enzymes, placenta previa, to name a few), the bazillion appointments, the sleepless nights, the kick counts, etc unless I loved my children and had a mother's heart for them, you know? But I can also understand how it might not feel real yet. The best thing is to celebrate when you feel ready. :)

We are celebrating today because tomorrow we are packing for a trip to Orlando on Monday. I got my hair cut and we had hibachi. Now we are taking my daughter to the park then maybe ice cream or froyo.

My husband also said happy Mother’s Day this morning (knowing it is tomorrow). I don’t feel that weird about it, but I have always had a good relationship with my mom. If anything, it makes me more excited for baby to be here knowing my husband is excited too.

I feel like a mom already.  Yes this is the ‘easy’ part but it’s still part of the experience.  My husband had flowers delivered to me yesterday.
