I’m 27 he is 41 but we understand each other and get along great. We deeply care for each but we are both afraid that it might not work out in the long run. Mainly because I’m still kinda young and he is much older. We want to be together but we also know there will be so many hurdles.

You're both adults. Go for it. If it works it works, if it doesn't at least you gave it your best shot. If you both feel that strongly about each other what could go wrong? Even in a relationship within the same age gets backlash from family, stares & opinions. Go be happy!
