Not exactly according to plan

Long story - sorry in advance!

May 7th, 39+2: I had been having routine contractions on and off daily for a week at this point however not enough to change my cervix from 2cm, 50% effaced. We had tried pretty much everything in the book to get this baby out (exercise/walking, exercise ball, hydration, sex, nipple stimulation, acupressure, spicy food, pineapple, Mexican food, and membranes were swept a week earlier.). My husband was already at work and I was scheduled for work at 8am. I’d showered and was getting some clean clothes from the dryer. As I stood back up, I felt a small gush that stopped just as quickly as it had started. I go to the bathroom but don’t see any other sons of labor. This happened a few more times between 645 and 715am. The clinic doesn’t open until 730 so I figured I’d just give them a call on my way to work. When I finally got through to the triage nurse, she directed me straight to L&D.; I called my husband to meet my there because I was already on my way. About 30 minutes later we are in triage and waiting for the amniotic fluid test to come back. I’m not having many contractions and I hadn’t dilated any further so I’m assuming it’s going to be negative. When the nurse comes back and says it was my water, I’m so relieved because there is an end in sight for this pregnancy!

The doctor decides to start Pitocin to get my contractions going. By 3PM I’m in quite a lot of pain and they want to increase my Pitocin even more since I had only dilated to 3cm. I ask for the epidural which took about half an hour or so to do. The pain relief was wondering but the tingly sensation in my feet was not. I was getting checked every 3 hours or so and by 8pm I was still only at 5cm and 90%. It took until 630 the next morning to get to complete but baby was still really high.

Right around shift change for the nurses. I started practice pushing. A new nurse comes in and is super pushy and bossy, doesn’t even tell me her name. After a few comments from her about not pushing hard enough, I snap back at her to stop yelling as it wasn’t going to help me. She left the room and came back less demanding. After an hour of pushing babe still wasn’t dropping so the doctor was called in. She assessed me as I pushed and said I could keep pushing or do a c-section. She could feel a lot of swelling in the babies head which may indicate he wasn’t fitting. I opted for the c-section immediately as the epidural had basically worn off and I was exhausted.

About 40 minutes later little Hudson Joshua was born! His poor head was so swollen from getting stuck in the birth canal

. After finishing the surgery, the doctor said to me not try any more vaginal births because I don’t have a wide pelvic outlet.

So even though pretty much nothing went accordingly to plan, we got a happy, healthy baby boy and I wouldn’t change a thing!
