Tampons?

So I'm heading to Air Force basic training in a few months and I'm nervous about my period during it because I don't want it getting in the way. I'm comfortable with pads but tampons are a different story... they hurt when I use them (rarely) but idk i was doing it wrong?? Anyone got any advice for periods in the military?

When i was in AF basic training, my period was SUPER light. I went from a full 7 days of medium flow to 3-4 days of spotting. Stress and no sleep will do that to you, as it did to most of the women in my flight. 
If pads are what you’re used to, use pads. The only time you might WANT a tampon is the obstacle course, as most women fall into the water. BEAST week might be better for pads because you’re pretty bundled up under layers. 
I was in Lackland from September to January, (tech school there as well) so it might be better to use tampons in the summer to prevent heat rash or what not.

Most the time in boot camp like 95% of girls will not get there periods cause of stress so don't bring tampons or pads they will get mad at you but don't worry they will have tampons and stuff for you

Not military but I bought a diva cup with looks really intimidating if your not good with tampons. You could just get irritated from things in the tampons. I never used scented tampons ever and bought a box by mistake and they made my cramps worse! The diva cup was the best purchase I made! A cup is little weird to get used to but you wouldn’t need to worry about carrying tampons around or worrying if they got wet in a pocket or something like that. Depending on how heavy your cycle is with a cup some people only have to mess with it every 12 hrs (not me, on my heavy day it can be every 1-2 hrs).
